In 1998, Abby's Foundation chose to help Deb's House - a short term stay facility for children of families in crisis. Deb's House was chosen because Abby chose it. Early in April of 1997, a couple of weeks before she died, Abby, her brother, Craig, her sister, Emily and her mother, Jan took a tour of Deb's House in Lancaster. On the tour Abby asked Jan to explain about who stays and who works there. After she found out that staff and volunteers work together to help the children, Abby said "Mommy, can I volunteer here?"

The Foundation's Selection Committee - comprised of a foundation board member(s), Abby's peers, family and friends - carefully reviews each application and chooses the annual recipient(s) based on the projects proposed. The Foundation Board awards these funds at the annual Family Skate Day for Abby. The skating event is held in February or March each year and is open to the general public FREE of charge.
